Myoma, 2006

pastels on Canson Mi-teintes paper

20" x 26"

Original available

With good reason I feel the need to explain this artwork
because of possible misunderstanding:

This thing being held in the hand is NO embryo.
This lump shown here is too big to be one. If it was human,
it would already have the size of a fetus. And a fetus is already
a complete  little human being that only needs to mature.

A Myoma is a benign tumor that can grow inside or outside the uterus.
For some women it can be painful and effect the quality of life substantially.
In some cases it can happen that the uterus needs to be removed
if medication and other methods of treatment don't help.

This woman here in this drawing wants to prevent this thing from growing,
and to finally get rid of the pain and trouble accompanied by it.
